Sexual Assault

Rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft promote their services as responsible and safe means to get home safely.  These companies know the trust their passengers are placing in their drivers’ hands and therefore know the importance of implementing strong safety policies to keep passengers safe. Uber and Lyft also know they have a rampant problem with their drivers committing sexual assaults on unsuspecting passengers:

  • In an October 2022 “Community Safety Report”, Lyft acknowledged that in three years alone there were more 4,100 sexual assault claims filed against the company and its’ drivers.
  • Similarly, a 2019 report showed in 2019 alone Uber reported more than 3,000 sexual assaults during rides, 92% of which were assaults on passengers.

Therefore, Uber, Lyft and other negligent Rideshare companies must be held answerable when abuse and sexual assault result from the absence of safety policies or lax safety policies that are not enforced.  These companies have an obligation to ensure the passengers’ safety and to support them in the event of an attack, and they have wholly failed these obligations.

Women and men have already come forward to tell their stories of rape and sexual abuse after trusting Uber, Lyft and other Rideshare companies to get them home safely and Simon Greenstone Panatier stands ready to help all victims regain their privacy and seek justice.
